Purpose Source Association founded
The steward organisation was founded on 2026-10-01 as a Swiss association. The founding cohort is the escrow campaign in which no project converts alone.
Amended 2026-09-05 (D29). Two sentences below were superseded by the cost-support decision of record, D29 (the cost-support model of 2026-09-05): the role claim is now scoped to code the Association registers for others (§6.3), and no tax-exemption application is pursued at founding (§9). Each is amended inline with the superseded wording kept as history. The post was first published on 2026-09-02 and was dated to the founding, 2026-10-01, on 2026-10-14. On 2026-10-15 the line saying the founding cohort is open was taken out; the cohort’s opening will be announced on the day it happens.
The Purpose Source Association was founded on 2026-10-01 as an association under Art. 60 ff. of the Swiss Civil Code, with its seat in the canton of Aargau. It is the steward organisation of the Purpose Source category: registrar and router, never a rights-holder in code it registers for others; never a licensor of code it registers for others; never a recipient of routed funds (amended 2026-09-05, D29 §6.3; as published: “never owner; never a licensor of anyone’s code”).
Two things about it are pending, and are stated as pending. Publication of the commercial-register entry: the register number and the Art. 69 Abs. 2 ZGB representative appear in the imprint on the day the register confirms them. And the tax position: no public-benefit tax-exemption application is pursued at founding; the Association asks the Aargau tax administration for one confirmation — that Purpose Fees passed on within 60 days are booked as pass-through — and nothing on this site describes it as tax-exempt (amended 2026-09-05, D29 §9; as published: “the advance ruling on public-benefit tax exemption, which has been applied for in Aargau and is pursued, never assumed”).
The founding cohort
The founding cohort is an escrow: repositories and paying organisations commit conditionally, and the licence goes live for all of them on the same day, once a published minimum of both is in place. No project converts alone; no payer buys into an empty registry. Launch is the escrow filling, and the announcement will be the event itself.

What this post does not say
