Voting
The board of the Purpose Source Association asks the people who build and run the software for their advice. The board asks, they answer, and the answers are advice: the board decides, and publishes its answer next to the result.
How a vote works
- Who is asked. Each vote says whom it asks: people who contribute to a registered project, people who run one, or both. Who is asked is worked out once, when the vote opens, by a rule whose numbers each vote publishes, and each person counts once. Anyone asked can step out with "Don't ask me". Staff and board members do not answer: they ask.
- Where people answer. In the Voting tab of their dashboard, until the vote closes. Until then they can change or withdraw an answer.
- What is published. The questions, roughly how many were asked, how many answered, the totals per answer, and the answer of the board. Any number under 5 shows as "fewer than 5", and counts that could reveal how someone answered are left out. No name, login or written answer is published.
- What the board does with it. A result is advice only: the board decides, and publishes its answer beside the result.
What is kept about the people asked, and for how long, is in section 9 of the privacy notice.
